Contract termination notices

Some providers have contacted us concerned at having received contract termination notices.

They are to give effect to the changes in legal aid coming into force next April.

The LSC are sending these out widely as they need to terminate most existing contracts to retender on a reduced scope basis (family, immigration and housing with debt) or remove categories altogether (welfare benefits, personal injury, employment, consumer). Education contracts are being terminated to give effect to the telephone gateway.

Community care, mental health, public law and actions against the police are not being terminated, nor are existing housing court duty scheme contracts.

UPDATE 27th September 2012: The LSC have now put an explanatory note on their website.
