Don’t call us, we won’t call you

Restrictions on when you can call the LSC have got even tighter. From this morning, you will not be able to call the LSC unless you need to take action within 48 hours and can not get the information you need anywhere else. All other queries should be sent by email or post. The phone line – if you can use it – remains on the restricted hours of 10 – 12 and 3 – 5.

These restrictions were supposed to be a temporary measure to allow the LSC to get on top of its paper backlog. Instead, they have been extended and are perhaps another symptom of the slow collapse of the LSC. As a public body charged with contributing to the smooth working of the justice system, its administrative meltdown over recent months has wider consequences beyond the convenience and cashflow of the providers it contracts with.
